Heat Assistance Program

The Heat Assistance Program helps eligible individuals or families pay for home heating costs. The program is designed to proving a one time flat grant to assist directly with a heat source provider.
Annual eligibility levels are determined based on available funding.

Applications will be issued beginning November 1, 2024

  • Applicant must be a resident of Bourbonnais Township and present a valid ID.

  • All eligible applicants will be assisted on a first come, first serve basis until allocated emergency funds are exhausted.

  • A current heating bill is an eligibility requirement for this service.

  • Heat Source Bill must be in name of household member residing within the household.

  • A Flat Grant on a one time basis will be allowed to eligible households only ONCE during the specified dates.

  • Eligibility will be determined by household size and income 60 days prior to the date of application.

  • Program ends Thursday, March 31, 2025

Households wishing to apply should stop in to the Township General Assistance Office at 1350 Armour Road and speak to Lisa or Nicole and to pick-up an application on or after November 1, 2024.

After the application is complete, applicants must make an appointment to meet with the program coordinator. Appointments can be made by contacting the office at (815) 932-6422. Walk-ins will not be accepted for assistance meetings.

Office Hours are Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Fridays 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Applications can be picked up in the office beginning November 1, 2024.

The General Assistance office is overseen by the Township Supervisor. The office provides general information, assistance programs for the indigent and public records.
