What we do

The Township Assessor is an elected official who is responsible for determining the market value of property within their jurisdiction for use in the Illinois property tax system.
The Assessor does not assess taxes. The Assessor does appraise property and place value on it, according to formulas set by the Illinois Department of Revenue. It is from taxes levied according to these property values as appraised by the Assessor that all units of local governments receive their income.
